Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.

Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Athletes will gain the ability to question particular rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the system already in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system is slated for use on the main stadium and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step comes just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific situations, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a rally.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can request.

A Recent Example

A recent example occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."

The umpire viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Growing Trend

This technology aren't exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
