The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
Ismailer stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the full text from the president's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. After a period of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His management and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming him next week. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
The President
Experience of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman currently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Details and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Face the opponents with unique powers, stakes, and tests that change every round. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, risk it all, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos does not have an announced release date or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation progresses.
